Vero tumor technology

Advancing Cancer Care

As one of only four hospitals in the United States offering a new technology for treating previously hard-to-treat tumors, Summa's Akron City Hospital and its Radiation Oncology Department are demonstrating every day how our cutting-edge care can significantly help many cancer patients.

Our new "Vero" stereotactic body radiotherapy technology offers precise treatment of tumors in particularly hard-to-treat areas of the body, including the lungs, liver, prostate, brain and spine. Treatments for these types of tumors are more intense and allow the patient to undergo significantly fewer courses of radiation treatment for the tumor.

Many other advances are being made throughout the Summa Cancer Institute, one of northeast Ohio's leading cancer centers. Our cancer institute unites all Summa Health professionals engaged in the diagnosis, treatment and care of cancer under a single entity.
