Welcome to the 2022 Summa Health Annual Report.

2022 continued to bring about a great deal of change across the healthcare industry. Changes in areas such as staffing, capacity and supply chain had a significant and ongoing impact on organizations across the country. At Summa Health, we have remained successful by being steadfast in understanding this complex healthcare environment. We recognize what we do well and are self-aware of areas where we can improve, so that we can make the decisions necessary to be better.

From the completion of the Juve Family Behavioral Health Pavilion, a state-of-the-art facility on the Akron Campus, to the successful migration to our own instance of Epic, Summa Health focused on investing in innovative ways to deliver high-quality patient care throughout 2022. In fact, we received recognition for our commitment to improving the overall health of the communities we serve. SummaCare’s Medicare Advantage plans, for example, earned a 5-star overall rating and Summa Health was honored with the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ for the first time.

What’s more, in 2022, Summa Health shared our most recent community benefit report, which highlighted contributions of more than $178 million. We also made significant strides in our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts with the implementation of a new mandatory DEI employee curriculum, sponsorship of 55 organizations that support DEI work, and hosting of a Black Men in White Coats Youth Summit.

This year, 2023, has not been without challenges. But we are confident that our unique comprehension of who we are, combined with the strength of our 8,000 talented and dedicated employees, positions us well to continue as the local independent provider of care for Greater Akron.

Thank you all for your commitment to Summa Health – and the future of healthcare.
